Make an app icon on your Mac

Forrrge is a native Mac app for making app icons from a description. Write what the icon should show, pick a style, compare what comes back, and export the one that works straight into Xcode.

What you need

From a sentence to an icon

  1. Add your key. Open Settings (the gear, or ⌘,) and paste it in. It's stored in your Mac's Keychain.
  2. Describe the icon. Start with a mascot, metaphor, object, or mood. You can add a reference image too.
  3. Pick a style. Sixteen render styles, from Octane, Glass, and Clay to Flat, Pixel, Low Poly, and Watercolor. Then tune lighting, lens, palette, perspective, texture, and finish.
  4. Pick a model. Seven image models across the three providers. You choose per render.
  5. Compare. Renders stream in as they generate. Keep the good directions and throw away the rest. Every render saves to the gallery with its full recipe, so you can see exactly what made it.
  6. Clean it up. Remove the background in one click, on your Mac.
  7. Export. Drop a ready AppIcon set into Xcode, hand a 1024 PNG to Apple's Icon Composer, or export every PNG size. You can also drag a render to Xcode, Figma, or Finder.

On iPad

The same forge runs on iPad (iPadOS 17 or later), included in the same purchase. It exports a PNG through the share sheet to start. Xcode icon packs stay on the Mac for now.

What stays on your Mac

Your key lives in Keychain, and your icons and the prompts that made them save locally. When you generate, the prompt goes straight from your Mac to the provider you picked. Forrrge has no server and no account.
